How it works
WebP holds the same picture in a noticeably smaller file than JPG or PNG, but it is not accepted everywhere: an older program or an official upload form may reject it. The reverse is true too, so conversion runs both ways. Everything happens in the browser and nothing is uploaded. Whether your browser can write WebP is measured at load time rather than assumed; if it cannot, the option is disabled.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn a WebP into a JPG?
Yes, pick JPG as the target format. If the image has transparent areas they are filled with the background colour you choose.
Why is there no quality setting for PNG?
PNG is lossless and carries no quality value. The setting only applies to JPG and WebP.
Does conversion upload my file?
No. The file is opened, converted and downloaded inside your browser; nothing reaches a server.
Can I convert HEIC files?
No. Most browsers cannot decode the HEIC format used by iPhones. Setting the camera format to "Most Compatible" on the iPhone makes it shoot JPG instead.
