How it works
The number comes from YouTube's official Data API and is cached for fifteen minutes. You can write the channel four ways: @handle, channel id, legacy username or plain channel name. Above a thousand subscribers YouTube rounds the number, and then it carries a ≈ sign. Channels that hide their subscriber count show as hidden, never as zero.
